Bonte means 'inherent form', and the museum was established to explore the intrinsic beauty of humankind. It is located on Jeju-do, the picturesque island known for its stunning natural environment. The museum regularly holds special exhibitions on nature, architecture, and traditional culture as well as contemporary art from international and domestic artists. The museum building was designed by Tadao Ando, world renowned architect and winner of the 1995 Pritzker Prize. The exposed marble-effect concrete and the harmony of light and water are signature features of the structure which is heralded as one of Ando's masterpieces. The museum also has an elegant outdoor garden and exhibition hall used to host conferences and events. The spacious garden in particular offers visitors a scenic place from which they can enjoy the island’s warm sunshine and ocean breeze. The music hall, located inside the museum, can host smaller gatherings or seminars.
