The Oil Tank Culture Park is Seoul’s foremost urban regeneration landmark. Before being transformed into a cultural space, it was an oil depot that stored 69.07 million liters of oil and had been off limits to the general public for 41 years. In 2014, the place was reborn into an eco-friendly, complex cultural space with its original spatial properties of oil tanks intact. The five tanks turned into performance venues, exhibition halls, and a multi-purpose pavilion. A newly-built tank became a community center with a cafeteria, while the large outdoor space, which was once used as a parking lot, is now being used as a culture plaza. Most of the spaces within the Park are versatile and can be used for various purposes including talk concerts, exhibitions and performances. The 140,000 ㎡-wide open field, that is the size of 22 soccer stadiums, can host large-scale events, festivals and workshops.
